NORWICH City will face Charlton Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup after the draw took place this afternoon.

Phil Parkinson's men currently sit 22nd in the Championship.

Charlton have won the FA Cup once back in 1947 and were runners-up the year before.

Parkinson is currently Charlton's caretaker boss as Alan Pardew left the club by mutual consent on November 22, following their 5-2 home defeat to Sheffield United, having been in charge for just under two years.

The tie at The Valley will take place over the weekend of January 3 and 4, 2009.

City boss Glenn Roeder said the Canaries would go to the Valley seeking to progress to the fourth round at the first time of asking. He told First News: "I'm happy with the draw except that I would obviously have prefered us to be at home. I think the supporters deserve and would have enjoyed a third round cup game at Carrow Road.

"But it wasn't to be and we'll go to the Valley and look to win. We won't be going there trying to draw and get a replay, that's for sure. Charlton are a club going through transition like ourselves and I would expect them to have their managerial situation sorted out by the time we play them. The Valley is always a tough place to go but we will go there with a very positive attitude and try to win at the first time of asking.

"The third round of the FA Cup is an exciting and historic occasion and we're looking forward to the game."
