AFTER he scored the first goal in the Canaries' 2-0 win at Carrow Road, Lee Croft says he couldn't be happier to have helped ensure all three points remained property of Norfolk.
Croft scored in the second half of City's victory over East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town, and he told canaries.co.uk he was over the moon with the result.
"It feels brilliant, all the lads are delighted," Croft said. "We haven't had the results recently so to come into this game, with such high stakes and passion, we really needed it for ourselves and we owed the fans something too. It's such a great occasion and a brilliant atmosphere - from my point of view it was great to get the goal but most importantly it was fantastic to get all three points.
"If you don't buy a ticket you can't win the lottery so I just had a dig and as soon as it left my foot I knew it would go in to the top corner. I can't describe it, my favourite goal was against Sheffield United, I really enjoyed that one but to score in a derby is a a great feeling. I can't describe how much it means to everyone."
Croft told First News the Canaries needed to repeat today's form in order to get on a consistent run which would take them up the table: "We've proven what we can do in games gone by, at Sheffield Wednesday we were a different class in the first half and against Crystal Palace in the second half we were a different class too. It's important we put a whole 90-minutes together and that's why we get so frustrated because we know we can do it and when we don't do it we don't know why. The gaffer says if we can do it once we can do it a 100 times and it's just up to us now to gain consistency and push ourselves up the league.
"We owed this result to the fans, they've been brilliant and always support us away from home as well. The squad know about the rivalry and the passion of the derby so we wanted to give them something to cheer about today. Hopefully they'll stay behind us now, we've got two tough games this week, one away at Watford and the other at Reading so I hope they'll continue showing their support so we can start pushing forward."
