MAINTAIN MOMENTUM - OMOZUSI

Posted on: Thu 11 Dec 2008

A CONFIDENT Elliot Omozusi says he hopes the Canaries can maintain their momentum after winning the East Anglian derby last weekend.

Having played a crucial part in ensuring City's clean sheet in their recent clash with Ipswich Town, Omozusi told canaries.co.uk he expected tonight's match to be a passionate one.

"It's always big when you're playing teams around you in the table," he said. "Hopefully we'll go there and get all three points to put some space between us. Last weekend's match was great, I was involved in a derby match between Fulham and Chelsea which we lost 2-1 and it was definitely a good feeling to be involved in the winning side of a derby game.

"I really enjoyed it, it all seemed to come together and a lot of the boys played really well. Hopefully we can use it as a real confidence boost, for myself and the boys, and we can use this to get the right results to shoot up the table."

On the Canaries' form so far this season, the 19-year-old added: "At times we've shown flashes of what a good team we can be, but we've also shown times where inconsistency can kick in. We definitely believe we are a good team and we showed on Sunday what we can do. Hopefully we can now start to get some consistency together."

With Dejan Stefanovic out for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury, Omozusi says he is happy to provide cover at centre back when called upon, which he did to excellent effect against Ipswich on Sunday.

"I played at centre back a few times at Fulham," Omozusi told First News. "Chris Coleman was a centre back so he used to take me aside and show me the ropes. It's definitely a role I'm comfortable with, so if needs be I'll play there again. I coped with it last weekend so if I have to do it again, hopefully I'll be the same."

Asked whether he would like to stay at Norwich and continue competing in the City first team, Omozusi replied: "Definitely, it's all about playing and we're going to sit down next week and talk with Fulham and see where we're going to go from there.

"I've enjoyed it here, obviously it could have been better with regards to some performances and results, but in terms of playing games and gaining experience, it's been good."
