REFLECTING on Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United, Mark Fotheringham says the team must continue to work together as a unit in order to climb up the league.

A header from Darius Henderson secured the Blades the win despite the Canaries seeing a number of chances come their way at Bramall Lane.

"It's the story of our season so far," said the Norwich captain. "We created so many good chances in the Sheffield United half and we were just unfortunate not to put them away. I think the woodwork saved them on a few occasions and they had some good blocks on the line.

"It was a bad goal from our point of view but we'll look at that in training this week and try to rectify it for the next game."

Fotheringham added the City squad had been grateful for the support of the Canary faithful: "It was great that so many fans came up all the way from Norwich and they backed us all the way throughout.

He continued: "I think we got the blend of football right, there was some great one and two-touch football with Wes (Hoolahan) in the midfield and we got the ball a lot more into Sibierski who was causing them problems with his flick-ons for Arturo (Lupoli)."

Having failed to secure a win in their last four league matches, Fozzy told canaries.co.uk the squad were determined to turn things around: "We are disapointed with the result and it just shows if we get the mix right, we can trouble any team.

"We all realise we are in a fight now and we're going to have to stick together as a team and as a unit - that's the staff, the players and everybody around the Club. It's so important that we get away from this area of the table and we've had such an unfortunate season, and I think we should be a lot higher up in the table than what we are.

"But the results don't lie and we are there for a reason - we have to put it right and we will be working on that as much and as fast as we can to get us up the table where we should be."

City now look ahead to two league home games this month before they head North to face Doncaster at the Keepmoat Stadium. With hopes also high for a successful run in the FA Cup as they prepare to take on Charlton at Carrow Road, the 25-year-old told First News January was an important month for the Canaries.

"There are some massive games but we've proved against the better teams - Wolves and Sheffield United at Carrow Road - we're more than capable of beating the bigger teams and it's also important to beat the teams that are around you in the table.

"We just have to get a little more consistency and we need to defend a little better as a unit away from home, because we give away cheap goals at times. If we can sort these things out I'm sure we can kick on in the latter half of the season."
