AS City prepare to battle it out with Charlton in their FA Cup Third Round replay, Glenn Roeder says progressing to the next round would be a major positive for the Canaries.
After the two sides drew 1-1 at The Valley on January 3, the City boss says the Norwich squad only have one goal in mind as the teams get set to recommence their cup clash.
"We need to get through, there wouldn't be a negative factor for going through tomorrow. Financial gain, winning a game for confidence - whatever you say, it would be a positive.
Tonight's match (7.45pm) has to be decided this evening, potentially leading to extra time and penalties if it remains level at final whistle. Roeder added: "No one wants to play more time than they have to because they're always thinking of the game at the weekend. I'm sure Barnsley will be hoping it goes to extra time."
After Sheffield United beat City 1-0 at the weekend, Roeder told canaries.co.uk despite not securing a win in their last four league games, he felt confident the Canaries' performances were improving. "The results aren't coming but the players have gained confidence in their performances," he said.
"Generally speaking, the poorest we've played through 90 minutes, and it wasn't the whole 90 minutes because there was a period at 2-1 down we should have made it 2-2, was against Forest. Overall if you look at the 90 minutes, that was the poorest we've played.
"That's what's been so frustrating this year, when we've played well we haven't taken a point or three. Goals change games, and on Saturday their staff were telling us that was as well as they've played for a long while, and their staff admitted they were fortunate to hear the final whistle."
He continued: "It's such a fine dividing line and it's when you're on a run like this, you realise how fine a line it really is. Sometimes when you're winning you don't dig too deep, you just keep going to the next game. When you're not winning, you keep analysing everything.
"While we're playing like that, they have to be confident that we'll fight our way up because they all stood up to be counted."
If Norwich beat Charlton and get through to the fourth round of the FA Cup, they will play either away to Leyton Orient or revisit last weekend's opponents, Sheffield United. Asked whether he would like the chance to return to Bramall Lane, the Norwich manager answered: "I have no opinion of who we play in the next round, I just want to make sure we're in the next round. I'll be equally as happy to go to my first club, Leyton Orient."
Confirming on-loan left-back Jonathan Grounds would not feature in the re-play line-up, Roeder added: "He can't play in the replay, and they wouldn't allow us to cup tie him in any case and that's right as well.
"Unless you've got someone on a year's loan, like Elliot where we can cup tie him, and Steve Bruce was quite happy with us to cup tie Antoine."
Following on from Aviva giving away 250 bacon rolls to the Club Canary travellers for the original Charlton match they are keen to follow this up tonight by handing out 250 refreshment vouchers, which can be used against the purchase of food or drink at any kiosk inside Carrow Road.
Aviva will have staff outside of the stadium (in front of each stand) handing these out from 6.30pm onwards on a first-come, first-served basis.
