ROEDER ON CUP EXIT

Posted on: Wed 14 Jan 2009

CITY boss Glenn Roeder spoke of his disappointment after the Canaries exited the FA Cup in the third round at the hands of Charlton Athletic.

Darren Ambrose's sixth minute winner was the difference between the two sides and Roeder said: "It was a poor goal where the through-ball should have been cut out but it wasn't and the ball was stuck in the back of the net.

"We had long periods in the first half and during the second half where we should have got something out of the game but I will be the first to admit that we did not play well for the whole game."

"When we were playing well the crowd was with us but when we gave the ball away a couple of times they were against us and I understand that. They were against the team and against me at times but I have very broad shoulders and have been in the game a long time and I understand their feelings. I am a fighter and I enjoy a fight."

He continued: "We will turn this around, we need to get new players, fresh blood certainly in the top-half of the team because this season we have missed too many chances. At the other end we have made too many mistakes."

Roeder said he thought the current squad had the stomach for the fight: "I have no doubt about that, football is won and lost in the two penalty areas, eradicate the mistakes defensively and put the ball in the back of the net. When we are making chances we are not putting them away."
