BOARD ON SEASON TICKET PRICE FREEZE
CHIEF Executive Neil Doncaster says the Club wished to reflect the loyalty and commitment of fans as well as the current economic climate within it's 2009-10 season ticket campaign launched at Carrow Road today.
Season ticket prices in all areas have been frozen at existing levels for next season, and other key features include new season tickets going on sale from day one and family area prices for under-12s remaining at £25. With more than 11,000 fans last year choosing to spread the cost of buying their season tickets over 12 months, the popular interest-free payment scheme continues again.
"We are delighted to be able to announce that it's a total price freeze on season tickets," Doncaster told canaries.co.uk. "We felt we needed to reflect the loyalty and commitment which our supporters have been showing in spades, and also the difficult situation in the economy and show awareness of the situations which our supporters will undoubtedly face.
"You have to look at all possibilities and by putting prices up, that's more money which goes towards team strengthening. But in the circumstances, with the benefit of the advice from the supporters who helped us with the pricing, we all felt a total price freeze was the best option."
One of the more innovative features is the Club's interest-free payment system which City are committed to employing again, Doncaster said: "Trying to understand people's cash flows and their own personal circumstances, we feel the interest free 12-month payment plan is absolutely vital and that's why we've maintained it even though it causes us difficulty in cost to run internally."
"It hits our cash flow and it means we have to effectively finance the cost of doing the interest-free offer, but we do feel affordable family football is what's important."
On the input of some Norwich supporters in the decison making process, he added: "We have four supporters who have given up their time working on the pricing working group with members of Club staff. We all got together, we all put our thoughts into the process and they gave us the views of people who sit around them in the stadium.
"Together we came up with the idea of the price freeze across the board and I'm delighted all of us have bought into that process. The loyalty which has been shown by supporters over so many years is reflected in how many season tickets we're able to renew this season, and the more we are able to renew the greater certainty of more money we can put towards team strengthening and the player budget over the summer. It's vital that this season ticket launch is a success."
Norwich City Chairman, Roger Munby, told First News he was equally as delighted to announce the season ticket initiatives. "It seems to me to be the right reaction to a set of circumstances this year which were extremely difficult to evaluate. We think alot about the wonderful collaboration which has grown between the Club and its' fans over the years, and that's something we couldn't let down by not reflecting the current economic climate. It's likely to be announced the country is officially in recession but the Consumer Price Index is likely to be zero by the time fans get to sit in their seats with their new season tickets next year.
"On that basis, the essential answer is to freeze prices and I'm pleased we're able to do that and came unanimously to that resolution. The principle of affordable family football at Carrow Road is supported by the £25 price for under-12s in family areas, the other essential components is a package which I'm delighted in being able to participate in launching."
