POSITIVITY IS KEY - GUNN

Posted on: Fri 30 Jan 2009

NORWICH manager Bryan Gunn says positivity is the key if the Canaries are going to return to Norfolk three points the richer from tomorrow night's fixture with Doncaster (7.45pm).

As City get set to take on Rovers, just two places below them in the Championship table, the Canaries' boss told canaries.co.uk he knew his side would have a tough challenge on their hands.

"I want to be positive, I think that's the main thing," he said. "I don't want any negative thoughts about what our away form's been like earlier in the season. Doncaster are a very good footballing side, they like to pass the ball from back to front, but I think we're a good footballing side as well.

"Hopefully the fans who go to the match will see a decent game of football. My message to the players will be positive - there's three points to play for and if we can't get all three then we can get one, let's get as much out of the game as we can."

On the residents of the Keepmoat Stadium, Gunn continued: "They are very good defensively, and they've got a fantastic Scottish goalkeeper in Neil Sullivan. They are a good unit, I don't think they've got the biggest squad but Sean O'Driscoll is a very good manager and coach and he's got them playing to a system which they've got success from at home.

"Doncaster have come up from League One and we'll be regarded as the big guns because we were in the Premier League a few years ago. The Championship doesn't have any favourites, it's the teams who are consistent and who defend their penalty box the best who do well - it's a tough league and there's not a lot between many of the teams."

Gunn told First News there had been a good response to the recent changes behind the scenes: "The commitment from the players has been excellent, the response to myself and the new faces around the building has been great.

"We can hopefully build on that, it's a massive game against Doncaster and there's no doubt about it. We'll go in relaxed and be focussed on it and hopefully we'll achieve the maximum we can do and that's what we're aiming for."
