AFTER the Canaries drew 1-1 with Doncaster, at the Keepmoat tonight, Bryan Gunn says he was pleased with City's performance during his first game away from home as Norwich manager.
The homeside took the lead during the first half, and after the half-time break Jonathan Grounds scored the equaliser and his first goal since joining City. Reflecting on his side's efforts, Gunn told canaries.co.uk he was happy with their hard-fought point.
"We are very proud of the performance because of the injury Darel Russell sustained just before half-time. He had to go off to hospital to get the side of his head checked, and I told the lads to go out in the second half and put a performance on for him and they certainly did that.
"I'm a bit disappointed we were 1-0 down in the first half, there was a lack of communication and nobody took ownership of the ball. But the positive was we turned it around at half-time big Carl Cort came on and we used the size, and also showed he's got a great touch and he brought others into play."
He continued: "Jamie (Cureton) had a great chance just after half-time, and the lads put in a sterling performance and I'm very proud of them. We're onwards and upwards at Molineux on Tuesday now and I hope we can put in the same level of performance."
Their second draw in consecutive games, Gunn told First News although they didn't obtain the desired three-point prize, he was proud of what his squad had so far acheived: "We've got what we've got, we can't improve on that now so it's really a case of taking the positives from it.
"An unbeaten run is a good thing at this time in the season, and if we can continue to put that passionate performance in, the travelling support tonight got right behind the team and it was just a shame we couldn't finish it off with three points. We have to keep working together as a team, there were a few raised voices in the changing room after the game and it's very passionate in there at the moment. It proves we can get back into games, that was very positive for me. Our defending was resolute in the second half, David Marshall made an excellent save and there was the midfield performance as well."
A dazed Darel Russell was taken off just before half-time after he caught an elbow to the face during an aerial challenge. Asked about the 28-year-old's condition, Gunn replied: "He's not back from the hospital yet. We've heard it's not fractured which is obviously good but there will be a recovery time from that injury.
"We'll make sure he has the best medical attention he can get and he put in a great performance in the first half - we asked him to play a deep-role on Brian Stock who is their playmaker and I thought he stopped him playing. I told the lads they needed to go out there in the second half and put on a performance for Darel, because he did a great job in the first half and it was only right we went out and got something from the game."
