GREAT TO GET 90 MINUTES - NELSON
CITY 'keeper Stuart Nelson said he was delighted to get 90 minutes under his belt at Carrow Road in the Canary Reserves' 1-1 draw with Barnet last night.
Since joining the Club last summer, Nelson is yet to make an appearance for the first team, with the Norwich number one, David Marshall, ever-present this season. Looking back to last night's match against the Bees, the 27-year-old told canaries.co.uk said it was good to get some action under his belt.
"I enjoyed it, I thought I did well and thought I made a couple of good saves," he said. "It was really good to get 90 minutes under my belt because I haven't played for a good few months now and that's been frustrating. I've got it now and it was a good game to play in, with quite a few pros so it was nice to get out there at Carrow Road and play the whole game.
"I've always enjoyed playing matches over training and that's where you earn your money. I think I've played four games at Carrow Road, but that's how it's been this season and it's not necessarily a problem. It's not got me down, I still feel like I'm in good shape if I get called on."
With Norwich boss Bryan Gunn recently describing Nelson's circumstance as "a game of patience", Nelson was asked for his thoughts on his time with the Canaries so far: "It is frustrating from my side of things because I'm not playing because I've always been a first team 'keeper and now I've had to take a back seat. To play in the Championship is the next step in my career and if it means I have to wait then that's what I have to do."
He continued: "People say that good things come to those who wait and that's what I'm doing and I'll continue to do everything in my power to be the best I possibly can be at the moment and then when I get my chance I'll take it.
"You know that there's only one 'keeper position that can be played and when I was starting out in the game, I had a choice of goal or playing outfield. On the pitch you can play in various positions but if you choose to be a 'keeper, you're limiting yourself at every club because only one is going to play."

Speaking at Bryan Gunn's Goalkeeping Day at The City of Norwich School, Stroud-born Nelson told First News he enjoyed taking part in such events. "It's nice to give something back," he added. " I remember when I was their age and it's great when the professionals come along because they're where you strive to be.
"You come on these courses because you enjoy playing football during your time off school, and you're looking to the future to be a professional 'keeper and it's nice to come along and support initiatives like this. I've thought about getting some coaching badges but at the moment I'm concentrating on my Norwich City career and getting a longer contract at the Club.
"I want to push on with the first team and make sure Norwich remain in the Championship. If that means playing in the first team or working behind the scenes to help Marshy with his role I'll do it, because at the end of the day we need to win games."
