GUNN REFLECTS ON CLARETS DRAW
BRYAN Gunn says the Canaries need to take positives from the 1-1 draw with Burnley despite dominating possession and getting pegged back after edging in front against the play-off chasing Lancashire side.
Jamie Cureton's goal in the opening half was later cancelled out by a goal from Burnley's Steven Thompson close to the half-time interval. Looking back on today's clash at Carrow Road, Gunn told canaries.co.uk although he was disappointed not to take all three points, he was pleased his players had stood up to an in-form and resilient Burnley side.
"It's always going to be a battle against teams like Burnley," he said. "They play fairly direct and they've got a system which they use and use well. I've already said to Owen Coyle that they will be in the promotion shake-up at the end of the season, they manage to get the same 11 out on the pitch every week and that's a part of the lucky side of being a manager - when you've got a settled side and you've got those quality players that you can bring on as well.
"They often get results late in the game, but we stopped them doing that today and I think we can take credit for that. We'll now prepare for another massive game against Coventry next Saturday. I think we went out on that pitch today believing we could get three points and the players are disappointed in the dressing room at the fact that we didn't take them."
The Canary manager continued: "At the same we need to take a positive from it, we battled away and got a point against a team that continued to play for the duration, and that showed when Chris Eagles had that chance late in the game.
"We had the better chances and if it wasn't for their big 'keeper Brian Jensen who pulled off a couple of tremendous saves, we certainly could have got the three points. I think the lads have worked really hard and have achieved something today, they've got that point and what we need to do now is take all three when we get the opportunity. We can't affect what other teams are doing."
The 78th minute saw Norwich academy starlet Luke Daley make his first team debut for the Canaries. Asked for his thoughts on the striker's first appearance in his side, Gunn told First News he was extremely pleased with the youngster's efforts: "He's forced himself into the reckoning now, he's been playing well at youth team level and he's been playing a few reserve games as well. He scored a hat-trick against Arsenal, and he's got pace which is something that's a great asset and it's possible we'll need to use that later on in the season.
"He's had a taste of it today, he'll obviously enjoy that but it's just a shame we didn't really get the opportunity to test out his pace - we got penned back in in the last five minutes when we could have possibly done with a few more longer balls."
