WES ON RETURN TO BLOOMFIELD ROAD

Posted on: Sat 07 Mar 2009

RETURNING to his old club to battle it out with Blackpool, Wes Hoolahan says he hopes the Canaries emerge victorious from today's clash with the Seasiders.

After he spent two years with the Lancashire side, Wes moved to Norwich in last summer's transfer window. The first time he's been back since moving to Carrow Road, the Irishman told canaries.co.uk he hoped the home fans would react well towards him.

"I'm looking forward to going back to Bloomfield Road," he said. "I had some good times there but hopefully we can get the win today. I'm not sure how the fans will react to me, I'm hoping to get a good reception.

"I thought I did well during the two years I was there but you never know. We got promoted in our first season and I think I was the top scorer as well, so that was good."

After City returned from London last weekend three points the richer, Wes added the win over QPR had boosted spirits within the Canary camp: "The mood's good, everyone's laughing and joking because we feel confident ahead of today's match.

"If we beat them, that will hopefully get us out of the relegation zone. This is massive, I think it's one of our biggest games this season. We need to win and hopefully we can. The fans here are great, there's a fantastic support for the this Club and hopefully we can give the fans a bonus at the end of the season and stay in this league."

After Bryan Gunn revealed to media the Norwich squad were paying for their flight up north, questions were put to Wes by reporters to find out more about the players generous decision. "We want to prepare properly and get up there as quick as possible, not wasting time travelling on the coach," he commented.

"The boys decided to do it and it's a good idea. We've had long bus journeys so at least now we've got our flight sorted. It shows we've got great spirit, we want to win and we want to be in this division next year - it shows a lot of character from the boys, and hopefully we can repay the fans by getting a win at Blackpool."
