CITY boss Bryan Gunn has confirmed in-form midfielder Wes Hoolahan is set to miss the remainder of the season due to ankle ligament damage.

Hoolahan was substituted at half-time in Saturday's 1-0 win over Plymouth at Carrow Road, having picked up the injury shortly before the break.

A scan has revealed the injury will sideline the Republic of Ireland international for at least six weeks, which effectively rules him out of the remaining seven games of City's Championship survival charge.

Gunn told First News Hoolahan was with a specialist in London yesterday and underwent an exploratory operation to further assess the extent of the ligament damage and the appropriate treatment.

He commented: "It's a devastating blow in our current situation. Wes has been a big player in recent weeks and losing him for one game would have been bad enough, never mind the remaining games of the season.

"But we have to remain positive and this is now an opportunity for one of a number of players who have been waiting for their chance on the sidelines to get into the action in the crucial games ahead."
