ACADEMY starlet Korey Smith says he's fulfilled one of his aims of the season, after he made his debut for the Canary first team against Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.
The 82nd minute of Saturday's 1-0 defeat to the Owls saw the youngster come on to replace David Carney. Reflecting on breaking into the first team, Smith told canaries.co.uk it had been a much-valued experience.
"It was an important match to come on, I just came on and tried to work hard," he said. "I kept the ball simple and I thought I did all right. I had a little gut feeling I might be involved and I was nervous the night before but it was more excitement - then when I got told to warm up and I was going on, I was just running on adrenaline.
"I've waited a long time and I've been training all my life to get on the pitch, it's such a great experience for me. Obviously we lost so that's a down side for me but hopefully I'll be able to push on now."
The 18-year-old continued: "I set myself the target to get on the pitch and make my debut this season, and I've done that and now I've got to think of some new goals. With the youth team, I've got to concentrate on that league and keep working hard."
Questions were put to Smith by reporters regarding the controversial decision made by referee Mick Russell to disallow a City goal six minutes from time. He replied: "I went up for the header and Mooney and I scrambled in the box - I just jumped, I think two defenders came either side of me but I didn't really see anything.
"The ball went into the back of the net and I thought it was a goal. I went off celebrating but the ref didn't give it. We've got to move on now and try and get the points in the last five games to stay up."
