MARSHALL'S CLEAN SHEET FOR SCOTS
CITY goalkeeper David Marshall played 77 minutes for George Burley's Scotland B squad last night, in their 3-0 victory over Northern Ireland B at Broadwood.
Marshall was replaced by Everton's Iain Turner, having put in a good performance as he looks to force his way up the international pecking order.
The Scot is one of two Canary 'keepers away on international duty this week, with Academy stopper Jed Steer in Germany with England at the UEFA Under-17 Championship - the 16-year-old playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Holland on Wednesday.
Steer kept goal for England at Stadion der Freundschaft, Gera in Germany but was beaten in the third minute by Dutch captain Oguzhan Ozyakup. Shabir Isoufi got to the byline down the England right and centred for Ozyakup to sidefoot Holland into an early lead.
The Norwich stopper made a good double save shortly after from Jerry van Ewijk to prevent the Dutch doubling their lead.
Arsenal's Jack Wilshere came closest to drawing England level in the first half, striking the crossbar with a free-kick three minutes before the interval.
It fell to left-back Luke Garbutt to level proceedings on 70 minutes, ten minutes from time, with the matches lasting 40 minutes per half. Garbutt was found in space by Everton's Jose Baxter on the left and the Leeds United defender drilled a low curling effort past Gerrit Jan ter Mate in the Dutch goal.
Substitute Jonjo Shelvey of Charlton Athletic, came close to giving England all three points late on with a free-kick, as Steer was a virtual bystanding in the second half. Fellow Canary Sam Habergham was an unused subtitute by England boss John Peacock.
Next up for England are hosts Germany on Saturday, May 9, broadcast live on Eurosport.
