I WOULD HAVE WALKED HERE - GILL
CITY new boy Mathew Gill says earning his first Canary start and running out at Carrow Road would be a dream come true after his Bosman switch from Exeter City was confirmed.
For Gill it's a switch which brings him back to his roots as he was born in Norwich, attended Fakenham High School and played for local club Old Catton Juniors as a lad.
A Level One tennis coach, he owns Premier Racquets and Fitness in Sedegford near Hunstanton with brother Darren, the former Wroxham FC stalwart. Both brothers were involved in City's youth set-up as youngsters.
Matt's career took him to Peterborough, then Notts County and Exeter - but his Holt-based parents will be at their proudest yet of their son when he makes his Norwich City first team debut.
Gill told First News: "It's an unbelievable opportunity to come back and hopefully pull on the yellow and green shirt. Not just for me but my whole family as well, they are ecstatic with the move, so it's just a matter now of getting going and hopefully working my way into the team."
The midfielder was voted players' player of the season after helping Exeter grab promotion to League One in May, the second successive promotion campaign in which Gill had played a key role.
Asked if it was a difficult decision to make the switch from St James' Park, he commented: "I've spoken about the difference between the two clubs - the fanbase, the facilities. So obviously it's a great opportunity for me to be involved with I would say Premier League facilities. It's a great opportunity for me to train up here at Colney and hopefully play at Carrow Road."

An experienced Football League campaigner, Gill believes the existing squad members plus more new arrivals boss Bryan Gunn will bring in over the summer will equip City to challenge in League One next season. Asked whether promotion was the target for City he replied: "It should be. Obviously it's a very competitive league this year with the likes of all three teams that came down and the likes of Leeds, Millwall, MK Dons. So it will be a very competitive league but I'm sure one which we'll do well in."
Bryan Gunn has stated his admiration of Gill's link-up play, his competitiveness and his hunger to do well for Norwich City, his hometown club - and Gill admitted it wasn't a hard sell for the Canary boss: "He didn't really have to sell the Club to me, to be honest I would have walked here from Devon. But yes obviously he's got ambitions the same as I have so let's hope we get off to a good start and who knows."
Gill's time at Peterborough saw him link up with current City senior pro Adam Drury and he said he was looking forward to catching up with his former team-mate: "Hopefully I can speak to him in the next couple of weeks. Obviously Adam's a very, very good professional and someone who I always looked up to at Peterborough, so it will be good to catch up with him again."
