WE'VE GOT OUR MAN - DELIA AND MICHAEL

Posted on: Fri 12 Jun 2009

AFTER David McNally was announced as the new Chief Executive of Norwich City this morning, the Club's majority shareholders say they're over the moon with the latest appointment.

After Neil Doncaster stepped down from the position last month, the search has been on for the person to take on the role, and lead the Club forward as it heads towards the 2009-10 league season.

Speaking at this morning's press conference, Delia Smith told canaries.co.uk her thoughts: "We're very relieved, and very excited," she said. "Obviously the Chief Executive is a top priority, and we started looking immediately - we had a lot of applications and we've spent a lot of time on this. We've got our man, and we're really, really happy."

Adding a message for Canary fans, Delia commented: "I hope the fans are happy too, I hope it will give them a boost - it's very difficult when nobody's hearing anything. Now we really feel we're on our way, and we have to work really hard to put together a team off the pitch as well as on it.

"We are going to work very hard at that - I myself, because of the financial problems, have been working extremely hard on another book and TV series. When that's all over, I hope to be here more and getting more involved at Carrow Road."

Michael Wynn Jones told First News:  "A Chief Executive has to be an administrator because they're running a company, and they have to have a sound knowledge of football. The person has to have commercial drive because money is the route of all issues in football, and commercial activities can help with that.

"Also, they have to have sympathy and an approach to the culture and community of the Club, and we want to cherish that. They were the benchmarks we had. It wasn't a difficult decision after we'd spoken to him, he came very highly recommended by two old aquaintances - Martin O'Neill and Roy Hodgeson."

He continued: "When they speak, you take notice, so that was important. One thing was pretty clear quite quickly, we are on the same wavelength which is very important."
