TUDUR JONES IS SECOND SUMMER SIGNING

Posted on: Tue 16 Jun 2009

CITY boss Bryan Gunn has completed his second signing of the summer in the shape of Welsh international midfielder Owain Tudur Jones from Swansea City for an undisclosed fee depending on appearances and potential success for the Canaries.

Tudur Jones will leave Swansea and join the Canaries on a three-year deal and is set to join his new team-mates when training resumes in July.

The 6ft 2in midfielder has made 56 appearances for the Swans in all competitions, scoring four times, since signing from Welsh Premier League side Bangor City in August 2005 after a successful trial period.

Manager Bryan Gunn told canaries.co.uk: "After Owain had figured for Wales in their recent win over Azerbaijan we sat down with the player and his agent to thrash out terms and I'm delighted we are able to confirm we have brought him in on a three-year deal.

"I've spoken to Roberto Martinez who was his manager at Swansea and he comes highly recommended by Roberto and others in the game. I've seen him play myself a few times and I know he's impressed at Swansea and also at Swindon on loan.

"I know Owain will be wanting to establish himself as a first team regular here and is hungry to do well for Norwich City. I'm delighted we have managed to stave off a number of other clubs who were interested in signing him to get him to join us."

Tudur Jones, 24, enjoyed an impressive first season at the Liberty Stadium - becoming a first team regular and making his Wales Under-21 international debut. He was part of the side that lost the 2005-06 League One Play-Off Final on penalties to Barnsley.

However, two years later Swansea were crowned League One champions, though he was restricted to 13 appearances due to injury.

Upon his return to first team action in March 2008, the 24-year-old made his debut for Wales against Luxembourg and has gone on to make three further appearances for his country, all in 1-0 victories, over Iceland, Denmark and earlier this month in the World Cup qualifier in Azerbaijan.

Owain spent the final two months of last season on loan at League One side Swindon Town, scoring once in 11 appearances.

After putting pen to paper, Tudur Jones expressed his delighted at joining the Canaries. He told First News: "I'm looking forward to the next few years that I'll be spending at the Club. Having been and had a look at the facilities it's a club I'm thoroughly looking forward to playing for and all the challenges that lie ahead. I've spoken to the manager and listened to his plans for building the Club back up and I want to be a part of that."

With City due to embark on their first season outside the top two divisions in 50 years, the Club's latest recruit was swift to acknowledge what was needed to succeed in the forthcoming League One campaign.

"The Club has obviously been having a couple of rough years and it is time now to get back to the drawing board, start again and try to get the Club climbing back up again.

"It is going to be tough but as long as everybody at the Club realises it's going to be tough and a huge challenge then I think we'll be all right.

"From playing for Swansea in League One for three years I'm relatively experienced at this level and I know what it takes to win games at this level - and that is what we'll be trying to do," confirmed Tudur Jones.

The Wales international has been handed the number seven shirt at Carrow Road for next season and admits he can't wait to meet his new team-mates and get started.

"To play here week-in, week-out and be a part of what the Club are trying to achieve will be an honour for me. I'm really looking forward to the challenge."
