CANARY midfielder Simon Lappin has signed a new two-year contract with Norwich City.

The 26-year-old has been with the Club since January 2007, and the new deal will see the Scotsman join the Canaries in this season's League One campaign.

Speaking exclusively to canaries.co.uk, Lappin said he was delighted to secure his place with City: "I'm absolutely over the moon, I'm glad to get it done now so I can just get on with playing football. I told the manager I wanted to be here and I'm happy it's sorted.

"I've said before that although it might not always be the case, I want to play every minute of every game and I've told the manager all along I want to play for Norwich."

He continued: "It's been a tough year but this is a challenge we're all looking forward to, and I just can't wait to get the season started. I want us to go back up to the Championship and we need to believe we can do that - there's no point in turning up if we don't believe we can do it. We've got a good enough squad of players and there'll be one or two additions as well, so we all have to believe we can go back up."

Norwich manager Bryan Gunn exclusively told First News: "I'm delighted Simon has signed this new deal and extended his contract with the Club. I know Simon was a little frustrated last season, but the one thing that really impresses about him is that he never gave in. He has a tremendous attitude and he's a real credit - he forced his way back into my plans.

"This is a good opportunity for him to make his name at Norwich City."
