ON-TRIAL forward/midfielder Paul Mcveigh says he plans to do all he can to persuade City boss Bryan Gunn to offer him a contract at Norwich.
The Northern Irishman spent 2000-07 at Carrow Road, later going on loan to Burnley and moving to Luton Town. Since returning to Norfolk to train with the City squad, McVeigh says he would relish the chance to return as part of the Canary camp full-time.
"I don't know what the Club's thinking, but from my point of view obviously I'm going to try and do everything I can to get a contract," he said. "I went to Luton and had some ups and downs, but I've been here training for a couple of weeks now and had good games against Fakenham and Dartford - I want to try and impress, I want a contract and I would love to come back.
"It would be brilliant if it happened but by no means is it close. The manager is still trying to bring in a lot of players, I'm realistic and I know exactly what the situation is. I'm going to try my best to get a contract, but whether that's good enough is another matter. It's been brilliant - I spoke to the manager over the summer and asked him if I could come up and train and take it from there. It was an open invitation which I'm really thankful for."
He continued: "Whenever you go to other clubs, you realise just how good it is at Norwich. Luton had its problems, just like other clubs do through the leagues - but when you're at Norwich you see how well the Club is run, as well as the great facilities, the infrastructure and the stadium.
"I was really surprised to see that Norwich were in the position they were last season, to see they could possibly get relegated - and then I was obviously very disappointed to see it had happened."
Michael Spillane and Chris Martin spent last season with McVeigh's old side, Luton Town. McVeigh said of the young City stars: "Last year they both did really well, they played most games and then they went to Wembley.
"They played so well last season that I think the manager here was pretty desperate to get them back again because he knows what they can do. I think it's great experience to try the different leagues, and I think what they experienced last year will benefit them massively."
