STRIKER Chris Martin completed the full 90 minutes of this afternoon's 1-0 win over Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone and declared himself happy with pre-season so far.

After a season-long loan at League Two Luton last year, the Beccles-born frontman is back at Carrow Road and firing on all cylinders. He hit two goals in the Canaries' 7-2 triumph over Dartford on Saturday and having sat out Tuesday's 1-0 win over Raith Rovers was pleased to have played his part in today's victory.

"We've played a couple of tough games and we've been working hard but that's what pre-season is all about. I think the lads have put in good shifts in both games and we've done well to win them both," he confirmed.

City's win this afternoon was a keenly-contested affair, as any among the travelling 200 or so Canary fans would confirm. However, a bit of the rough stuff will certainly do Gunn's men no harm as they prepare for the League One campaign ahead.

"This is the only way to warm up for what life is going to be like in League One, they are feisty teams up here in Scotland and that's what you come to expect.

"The tackles were certainly flying in today and as much as we don't want to get players injured they certainly need to get a taste of it."

After a year away from Carrow Road, Martin confirmed it was good to be back and he felt ready to make a major impact with the Canaries next season.

"I've put in some hard work over the pre-season as all the lads have, now it is just nice to get a few games and get a feel back for playing football again. It's all progressing well towards the start of the season.

"Another reason I went on loan to Luton was to do well and impress people back here, with a view to playing in the first team again and hopefully I'll get a chance to do that next season."

Striker Goran Maric was the Canaries' match winner this afternoon and Martin said he had been impressed with what he had seen from the big Serbian during the tour to date.

"He's done alright, he can't speak much English so it's been hard to communicate with him but he certainly scored a good goal today so good luck to him."

Martin's parents were among the Canary fans watching today's game against St Johnstone and the player confirmed his Scottish father was certainly enjoying the tour.

"I think he's probably enjoying it more than me up here! He's come up with my mum to watch the games so it's a bit of added pressure for me."
