AFTER the Canaries 1-1 draw with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United XI side today, Bryan Gunn says there were plenty of positives to take from the home side's solid performance.
He told First News: "I'm pleased, I was speaking to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the tunnel at the end and he said we'd given them a bit of a run around in the first half. I would say they gave us a run around in the second half, we made some changes at half-time but I think they got into the game later on.
"All-in-all, I think it was a good day's work today, and it introduced a lot of the new players to the stadium and to the fans. We can take all the positives out of the game that we need to."
Tom Adeyemi's impressive performance culminating in his first half goal earned him the man of the match title, a performance which Gunn said proved the youngster had a bright future ahead of him: "He's got excellent prospects and that's the reason why he played today.
"He started right at the grass roots with Football In the Community and now he's into the first team, so what a story that is. I encouraged him to shoot before the game, and the goal he scored was top-drawer. He later had another chance, so it was a good opportunity for him to show his promise - he's been doing that all through pre-season and I always said we were looking forward to introducing some of the academy scholars into the first team squad. He's certainly done that in a fine fashion.
"They're all in my thoughts and Tom's pushed his way in well - Ian Crook was analysing our performance today and he looked at me and said Tom's given you a problem. That's what managers want, we've built our squad up and there's competition for places. Tom's in there competing and today's shown what a good player he is."
Asked by reporters if he had decided on his captain for the 2009-10 season, the Canary manager replied: "I spoke to the lads after the Airdrie game, and I announced Gary Doherty would be the captain for this season.
"Michael Nelson and Matthew Gill will be vice-captains behind him, so I'm delighted the Doc has shown the form last season which showed his appetite is for Norwich City. He has great leadership qualities which we'll need this season, that's something we'll need all over the pitch."
With questions put to Gunn for an update on Goran Maric, he said: "I have received the answer but I'm not in the position to tell you what it is. We'll keep that under wraps for a couple of days.
"We also introduced Kris Bright later on in the second half, he's a New Zealand international who is out of contract at the moment, and he's been with us the last few days. He came on and showed us some nice touches as well, so I think it's good that the scouting network we have here finds the players we need at Norwich City. We'll have a think over the weekend and we've got some decisions to make."
