IT WAS A DREAM COME TRUE - ADEYEMI

Posted on: Mon 27 Jul 2009

CITY starlet Tom Adeyemi has told canaries.co.uk he was ecstatic to hit the back of the net past Manchester United's Tom Heaton in the first half at Carrow Road yesterday.

Although his effort was cancelled out by Ritchie De Laet's equaliser late in the game, the youngster said the experience had been fantastic.

"It was an amazing feeling and it's a dream come true to score at Carrow Road," he commented. "It was quite a good goal, it was good to score like that today - the ball just came to me, I had a touch at my feet and I just went for it.

"I'm just going to keep working really hard and come the start of the season, hopefully I'll be in and around the first team again. I felt my partnership with Owain Tudur Jones went really well because he's a more defensive kind of player, which allowed me to push forward and get my goal."

With competition hotting up for places within the Canary camp, Adeyemi said he believed it could only be a good thing for City: "It's a really strong squad, and there's a lot of competition which is good, especially in midfield - we've not got Stephen Hughes as well, so it's going to be tough but I'm up for the fight.

"When you see people come in, it's another person in between you and the first team - I'm confident enough in my own ability to get past all of them and get into the team. Last year I got in most positions and I wasn't getting the goals, but so far I've had a few more shots and a few more goals."

Finally, asked what he would be doing with his man of the match champagne, the 17-year-old replied: "I'll be giving it to my parents!"
