HOLT AND TUDUR JONES READY FOR OFF
TWO of Bryan Gunn's 12 summer signings, Owain Tudur Jones and Grant Holt, say they are confident the Canaries have a squad strong enough to battle it out in League One this season.
Welsh midfielder Tudur Jones joined the Canaries in June, with striker Holt following a month later. Speaking to canaries.co.uk, Holt said he was looking forward to the start of the 2009-10 campaign:
"I can't wait now, it's been a long time coming and I'm just looking forward to hopefully being in the team tomorrow. It gets to the point where you just can't wait to get going - you've done all your hard work and you just want to get out on the pitch and show everyone what you're about.
"When you look at the players the manager's brought it, I'm surprised we haven't been pushed up to favourites. You have to forget about that, win games and do what we set out to do. Everyone knows we should go up, we have a very good squad here and I firmly believe if we perform, we will."
Adding further thoughts on the strength of the City squad, he continued: "It's a tough old league, we need to go and grind out the results and the manager's brought in a good mix of talent and experience. I've been brought here to score goals, but it's not all about me - as long as someone scores for us, I don't mind - but hopefully I can do it straight away.
"We've got the players who can produce week-in, week-out and as a forward it's great to have those people around you. I hope I can keep my goalscoring going, it's always nice to break your duck early on - but if the team win tomorrow I'll be happy whoever scores."
With competition hotting up for places across the squad, Tudur Jones told First News he would be doing all he could to impress the City manager: "Last season was difficult because I was fit and ready, but I just couldn't get into the side at Swansea. It made me a stronger person and I appreciate things a lot more.
"I don't tend to look back on it though, I'm just looking forward to playing now after getting a good pre-season under my belt. I feel really good - it's just a case of putting that in to practice on a matchday now and that's something I'm really excited about. I've throughly enjoyed the pre-season and now I just can't wait to play at Carrow Road this season."
As the Canaries get set to start the campaign with this weekend's fixture against Colchester United, the 24-year-old added playing in front of a packed house at Carrow Road was an experience he would relish: "This is what I've been waiting for ever since I joined, luckily enough we get cracking with a really good game at Carrow Road. We were unbeaten during our pre-season and that's great for our confidence - having the squad winning games, and knowing what that feels like can only be good.
"There's going to be a number of teams pushing for promotion but certainly we'll be one of the favourites, and that's something we have to live up to. The support here is great and it's something which can only drive us forward - I wouldn't have it any other way. Who wouldn't want to play in front of that many people? It's certainly a day we're all looking forward to."
