HAVING returned to Carrow Road this season after a two-year absence, Paul McVeigh says he's delighted to be back and seeing first team action again in a yellow shirt.
After a trial at the Club during the summer the Northern Irishman was handed a one-year deal by Bryan Gunn - a surprise to some but not to the 31-year-old: "I always thought I would love to come back and play again, and the way it's worked out I couldn't have written the script any better. I'm delighted."
McVeigh believes after a disappointing start to the season, the Canaries now have the ability to push on up the League One table: "I think the squad was under performing, especially with the Colchester game and then losing down at Brentford, you're thinking the actual team and squad were better than this and there's definitley room for improvement.
"Now we're starting to play to our potential I think we need to pick up a lot more points and try and go on a bit of a run to take us through to the Christmas period."
Shortly after his Carrow Road return came the change in management team and McVeigh believes the organisational skills new City boss Paul Lambert has introduced have had a positive impact on the players: "Definitely. I think organisation and discipline. With the way things are done now everybody knows exactly what they have to do, where they have to do it and the implications for not doing it, which is more important.
"That's good because everyone knows what they have to do and it's obviously paying off on the pitch."
He continued: "It has to be in every part of the Club. If you have discipline just on or off the field it doesn't work, it has to be everywhere. I think the manager is the one that sets the standards - you can see every day he comes in and he knows what he wants and you know exactly what you have to do and as I said it seems to be working."
McVeigh was asked if it was good to hear the Norwich fans sing songs about him again, to which he smiled and answered: "Well just the one song. I don't think they have more than three lines mainly about my lack of height!
"Talking to friends and family I can't believe the reception I've been getting, it's been a bit surreal. I thought I was really going to have to try and win people over and impress them a lot more than I have done, but people seem to have long memories."
