COOL HAND LUKE

Posted on: Sat 26 Sep 2009

YOUNG City forward Luke Daley is determined to make the most of his recent run in the Canaries' first team.

The pacy Academy product has made the starting 11 three times and come off the bench on three occasions since Paul Lambert took over as City boss - and hopes there are plenty more opportunities to come.

"It's going really well, I'm enjoying it" he told First News. "I did well in the first few sessions after the new gaffer came in and it's been good to be around the team since then."

Despite the steep learning curve that comes with being thrown into the first-team mix, Daley says he is relishing the challenge: "I think every day it's improving and my confidence is getting better and I believe with a few more games I'll keep on improving and progressing.

"I know ability-wise I'm there, the manager believes in me, so it's just about building my confidence and making myself a better player."

Daley played the first 71 minutes in Saturday's stirring 2-2 draw with Charlton and was delighted with his team-mates' never-say-die spirit: "The boys did really well, kept on fighting and didn't give up and managed to get a draw at the end of it, so it was really good."

The youngster has been utilised in a wide right position in the first team and despite having played more as a straightforward striker for the Academy side, he is confident the goals will come where ever he lines up.

"I think if I can get myself in amongst it a bit more and create a few more chances then I will definitely get a few," he told reporters at the Colney pre-match press conference.

Looking ahead to tomorrow's visit to Gillingham (3pm), Daley said City's best chance of success was to go for a case of 'same again please' after Saturday's heartening display.

"I think we just carry on with the confidence and the way we ended the game last week, if we carry that on right from the start then I think we can get a result."
