WITH injuries having hampered City's full-backs over recent weeks, former Crystal Palace defender Rhoys Wiggins hopes he has overcome his personal setbacks to feature in Tuesday night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Area Quarter-Final at Swindon Town (7.30pm).

The 22-year-old joined the Canaries in July from Selhurst Park, but rehabilitation from a summer knee operation has meant his first team debut was delayed until City's 1-0 victory over Gillingham in the last round of the Trophy competition.  Something he now hopes he can put behind him.

"It's going all right, I'm quite happy with the way it's gone," he said. "I needed what was done in the summer, so hopefully that's given me what I need now not to get injured again in the future."

Wiggins was also a 56th-minute substitute in Saturday's 7-0 FA Cup victory over non-league Paulton Rovers - coming on for an injured Adam Drury.

He commented: "The result was good. We couldn't have asked for a lot more to be fair. We went down there, we knew it would be quite difficult to go out there and we didn't think they'd give us much time on the ball, so we tried to do the same to them and the result was good."

Although the left-back also got a knock to his knee at Winterfield Road, he is hopeful of being involved in Paul Lambert's team selection for the match against the Robins: "It would be nice, another 90 minutes is always welcome. I don't know what the gaffer is doing, whether he's going with the same squad. I'll just have to wait until tomorrow to find out."

With City continuing to have injury concerns over both full-back positions and Simon Lappin suspended for Tuesday's game, the Welsh international wants to make a claim for further first team involvement.

"That's up to the manager to decide," he said. "But I feel good and I'm just waiting for my chance really.

"It would be a good opportunity for me tomorrow, if I do get to play. I'll just take whatever comes and hopefully can perform and stake a claim for a position."

Asked whether if selected he would feel pressurised to prove himself, he replied: "It's a bit of pressure. But that's part of football as well, every game you've got to go out there and be able to do what you can to win, so there's always pressure on winning and performing well."

Wiggins, like his Canary team-mates, says he has benefitted from life under Paul Lambert: "Training, he likes it at 100 miles per hour and working hard - he doesn't like to give you any chance to relax - it's definitely working for me and the other lads as well.

"We've got more fitness and we're doing a lot better on the pitch and we're all together off it."

Tickets for City's Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie are still available, with over 500 Canaries already making the trip to Wiltshire. They will also be available on the night from the County Ground.
