On The Ball written by Gareth Payne.
Full-time - A dominant City side were made to work hard for the three points, which move them into second place in Coca-Cola League One. Frustrated for long periods by 'keeper Scott Shearer, who made several fantastic saves but Korey Smith's third career goal - two now against the Chairboys - a close range finish from a Wes Hoolahan low cross won the day.
90+2 - Needless free-kick given away on the halfway line. Pumped deep into the area and headed down but Forster is quick off his line to slide down to gather. Kicked long and there goes the final whistle.
90th - Three minutes of time to be added on.
87th - "Fantastic stuff!! Let's get another and shut the game out!" - milehicanary
85th - Matt Bloomfield replaces Matt Phillips with five minutes to go at Adams Park. The match attendance is announced as 7,171 - over 2,000 of those travelling City fans! Scott Shearer is awarded the man of the match, a good choice, he has made several fantastic saves to keep his side in it until this late stage.
82nd - Matt Harrold who scored in the 5-2 win comes for Kevin Betsy.
77th - Cometh the 77th minute, cometh the Smith! Korey Smith with his third goal of the season and career for City! Chris Martin slipped in Wes Hoolahan down the left and he drove his cross across the face of goal, where Korey Smith is coming in on it to sidefoot home from 10 yards. Paul Lambert runs along the touchline in front of us and punches the air on the jump! Smith's first goal of course came at Carrow Road in the 5-2 win over Wycombe Wanderers earlier in the season.
76th - Wycombe come within a whisker or lick of paint of opening the scoring just after City looked like they would. Matt Phillips got in the right-hand channel and with a textbook shot low and hard across the 'keeper saw his effort come back off the post and into the grateful arms of the prone Fraser Forster.
75th - Lewis Hunt off the line for Wycombe. Gary Doherty brought the ball out of defence and fed Chris Martin on the right, he tricked his way into the box and to the byline, crossing across the face of goal. It squirmed through and Lappin drove goalwards but blocked and Holt with his back to goal with the backheel, which Hunt chested off the line.
67th - City still trying to look for a way past Shearer and Chris Martin has his third long range effort of the afternoon, this one from open play, arrowing towards the far corner from 25 yards but again Shearer is equal to it palming it away.
65th - Shearer flaps at a Lappin corner but City can capitalise. Hoolahan retrieves and fizzes in a cross, which Lewis Hunt turns behind. The corner comes to nothing though and after conceding nine goals in two games, Wycombe are doing well to keep their sheet clean with over an hour played.
62nd - Pittman is stronger in the challenge than Korey Smith but the assistant referee is flagging for a free-kick, ignored by the referee. Pittman shoots low but comfortable for Forster.
60th - Adam Hinshelwood's debut could be about to come to an end. The defender stays down after the latest Nelson header. That is his afternoon done, the very tall Luke Oliver will replace him at centre-back.
58th - City keeping the pressure up on the Chairboys goal. The latest arrives from a cross from the left met by Michael Nelson but again just wide of the left-hand post.
55th - The chances are coming thick and fast for City. Adam Drury intercepts a through ball intended for Jon-Paul Pittman and City break. Eventually the clear is cleared away out of the Wycombe area but Russell Martin is waiting to strike another half-volley, which Shearer again does brilliantly to keep out. The corner is met by Holt but narrowly wide.
53rd - Lappin is scythed down from behind by Tommy Doherty and he is booked. Chris Martin with the free-kick, another great strike and at full-stretch Shearer tips round the post. From the corner, Nelson wins the header but a great block from Westwood stops the goalbound effort.
52nd - Another big moment of the game! Lappin delivers from the left - Holt and Westwood challenge for the ball, Westwoood appears to push Holt who handles the ball as a result, referee blows his whistle, assistant flags...and a free-kick for handball to Wycombe is awarded.
47th - A poor clearance falls straight to Grant Holt. The striker takes it first time but it takes a deflection off a defender and out for a corner. Lappin takes left-footed from the left, straight onto the head of Gary Doherty, who with a standing jump puts his header narrowly wide.
46th - City get us back underway and are shooting from right to left towards the more than 2,000 City fans who have made the journey to Adams Park. Light beginning to fade over in the distance beyond the trees and the floodlights greet us with their presence.
"Sounds like we were putting some pressure on at the end of the first half. Lets hope we keep it up in the second half - anything other than a win today would be disappointing!" - menmo2002
Half-Time - Referee Pat Miller brings an entertaining but goalless first half to an end. Both teams have had chances with Scott Shearer being the busier of the two goalkeepers making two fine saves and Chris Martin has rattled the woodwork.
45th - Minimum of two minutes of added time to be played.
43rd - City straight back at Wycombe. Grant Holt nods the ball down and Russell Martin assesses his options and opts to strike a dipping half-volley, which Shearer backpedals to tip brilliantly over his bar.
42nd - Nelson is back on after treatment. Another good chance for Wycombe. A Kevin Betsy cross from the left is met unchallenged by Scott Davies.
40th - Michael Nelson is caught late by Matt Phillips as he clears the ball, right in front of the assistant on the far side, but nothing given, it looked a nasty one.
36th - Chris Martin has the latest free-kick attempt after captain Holt has his ankles clipped. Lappin runs over it, Martin strikes right-footed, beautifully hit and Shearer is beaten but it cannons back off the crossbar.
33rd - Darel Russell's turn to have a go from range, shifted onto his left foot to get a better sight of goal but always rising over the bar.
30th - Hoolahan draws another foul when surrounded by four Wycombe players. The free-kick is touched short and then played square to Lappin, who strikes a powerful shot, but just wide of Shearer's left-hand post. Corner to City though as it took a deflection on its way through. Corner from Lappin is headed clear.
28th - A potentially big point in the match! Debutant Adam Hinshelwood is all over Wes Hoolahan, having a couple of bites at the Irish cherry and eventually hauls him down just outside the box. The crowd are baying for red but only a yellow card for the former Aldershot man, could have gone for a professional foul. Simon Lappin with the free-kick, up and over the wall but Shearer pulls off a fantastic one-handed save and is up again to block the rebound from Chris Martin.
26th - Simon Lappin is the first name taken by referee Pat Miller for a foul just inside the City half. The free-kick is deep and Michael Nelson ducks under it for a goal kick.
23rd - Wes Hoolahan tries his luck from distance, turning as he received the pass into feet and letting fly from 25 yards, which dipped but not quite enough and just cleared Scott Shearer's bar, the former Coventry City goalkeeper judged that right.
21st - Grant Holt wins a corner trying to find Russell Martin with a return pass. Simon Lappin with the corner from the right, headed clear and a short pass puts City in danger. Pittman with pace and a man over to his left but he never looked up and Martin shows great pace and strength to hold up the striker and shut him down inside the box.
20th - Craig Woodman wins a corner for the hosts, his attempted cross deflected off Russell Martin. Scott Davies with the corner, the midfielder on loan from Reading, but Fraser Forster comes to claim the corner.
17th - Jon-Paul Pittman finds himself a yard of space just outside the box but drags his shot wide of the post.
16th - A great ball from Wes Hoolahan through the middle but Korey Smith is flagged offside.
14th - Straight up the other end, Scott Davies turns and shoots but not one of his best it's fair to say.
13th - City applying the pressure, consecutive corners, ending in Doherty meeting a Simon Lappin corner from the left but Shearer catches comfortably.
7th - Free-kick awarded to Wycombe for a 'foul' by Darel Russell. Lifted into the area by Scott Davies and the ball falls kindly for Jon-Paul Pittman who lashes over from close range, a decent chance that. Early signs sugggest Pittman will play up front of his own with a five man midfield, Tommy Doherty charged with being the player to support from centre midfield.
2nd - Grant Holt has the first chance of the match, only a half-chance taking a long ball forward from Gary Doherty on the volley over his shoulder first time but an easy gather for the giant Scott Shearer in the Wycombe goal.
1st - Wycombe get us underway with City defending the goal in front of their fans, so kicking towards them second half, a good incentive that. City kicking from left to right from my vantage point.
We're almost ready to go, both teams are in their respective pre-match huddles.
"Good to see a strong side can be put out, injury rumours had me worried!" - ankles50
Wycombe give a debut to defender Adam Hinshelwood, frehsly signed from Aldershot, the former side of manager Gary Waddock. Former Chelsea and Leeds United centre-back Michael Duberry is the player to miss out. The reverse match at Carrow Road earlier in the season was Paul Lambert's first game in charge of the Canaries and saw a 5-2 win. Peter Taylor was in charge for the Chairboys that day but has since been replaced by Waddock. Waddock labelled his players a "shambles" after the 5-2 home defeat to Brighton, coming just days after the 4-0 away defeat to Yeovil Town, it would be fair to say he is looking for a response from his players today. In his programme notes Waddock apologised to the fans and said it was "unacceptable". Wycombe lie 23rd, six points off safety.
City are in their all-white strip today, although some players have chosen the black shorts for the warm-up. The city fans have the stand behind one of the goals and part of the small side stand, over 2,000 tickets sold. The players are warming up in the corner over by the fans.
This is one of only two League One games on today, Walsall v Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient v Yeovil Town has been hit by the weather. The other game on is Hartlepool United v Oldham Athletic. A win today would put City into second, as we're currently three points behind the Addicks, with a better goal difference and this being our 'game in hand' to go level on 24 games played.
Paul Lambert makes two changes from the Boxing Day win over Millwall - back from suspension is Gary Doherty to partner Michael Nelson with Jon Otsemobor dropping to the bench. Korey Smith is back from a thigh injury and replaces the injured Stephen Hughes, who has a calf injury:
