IT WAS certainly double delight for City striker Chris Martin as his two first-half goals helped the Canaries on their way to a commanding win over Colchester United and continued their League One promotion push.
With further goals from Gary Doherty, Oli Johnson and Grant Holt after the break cementing a 5-0 victory over the U's, Martin said it was a great team display:
"We possibly thought it was going to be a lot closer than it turned out," he said. "But I think that was due to our dominance of the game in the end.
"I think we were first to most balls and to the second balls as well, and showed great fighting spirit and that's what got us the result."
City's performance was even more impressive considering the poor, wet and muddy conditions at the Weston Homes Community Stadium. Martin commented: "We had to change our game a lot and I think that's credit to us for doing that, as we're not used to doing that. We like to play football, but it wasn't possible on that pitch at all, we had to play a lot of long balls - but we managed to adapt very well and played them at their game I suppose you could say, and we ended up coming out of it all right."
The 21-year-old added the elements had made it difficult for him to take his goal-scoring opportunities: "The second one was horrible, I never thought it was going to sit there for me. I was trying to drag it through the mud that's just outside their box, but luckily I managed to claw it through and popped it in the corner.
"I was very happy and that was big for us to go into a 2-0 lead, and from there we never looked back."
Asked if this result was an opportunity for City to avenge their opening day 7-1 defeat, the striker said this wasn't the team's main motivation: "I don't think it was about that first and foremost. It does kind of lay it to rest I suppose now, it was always in the back of people's minds especially the fans who remember that day, and the lads that played in it wanted to make sure we did lay it to rest. I think we made a big statement today.
"I think our motivation is promotion, that's as bigger motivation for anyone in this league and we used that as well in the match today."
