MILLWALL fought back from a goal down at the New Den to win 2-1 and condemn leaders City to their first league defeat since October 19.

Chris Martin put Norwich in front with his 19th goal of the season in the opening minutes - but a goal in each half from Tony Craig and substitute Neil Harris proved to be enough to inflict a rare defeat on the Canaries.

City started brightly and took the lead after just four minutes, much to the delight of the 2,865-strong Yellow Army.

The goal was all about Chris Martin - the young striker first earning a free-kick with some neat footwork to draw the foul from Lions skipper Paul Robinson and then rifling home round the wall from 22 yards to put the Canaries in front.

But Millwall hit back in the 25th minute when Craig's fiercely-struck effort from the edge of the area was deflected past Fraser Forster to make it 1-1.

And worse was to come after the break when the Norwich defence was caught napping from a short corner and Chris Hackett's cross was bundled home by substitute Harris from close range in the 50th minute.

The Canaries pressed hard to salvage something from the game and were desperately close to snatching a point five minutes from time, when Michael Nelson's audacious overhead kick deflected off a defender and rolled inches wide of the far post with 'keeper Forde well beaten.

"It was a tough game, really, really tough. As I said before Millwall are a good side. I can't have asked for any more if I'm the honest, the boys gave me everything they had. We got off to a terrific start with Chris's goal but it was a real battle. I am disappointed for the fans that came and watched us and the lads, but I'm not too disappointed with what the lads have done since we've been here since August.

You can only play with what you're allowed to play with and Millwall are a good side and Kenny (Jackett) has got them playing well. But I didn't think there was too much in the game for either side chances-wise. I just thought their second goal we got caught a little from the corner unfortunately.

"I think if you offered any manager at any level one defeat in nearly four months of league football, they'd bite your hand off. We will go to Brighton next weekend and we will now focus on that game - I don't dwell on victories because you always have another game just around the corner to get ready for, so I won't dwell on today either."
