TEAM NEWS FOR SAINTS CLASH
PAUL Lambert has no new injury concerns ahead of Saturday's League One clash with Southampton at Carrow Road (3pm).
Adam Drury (thigh), Zak Whitbread (calf) and Cody McDonald (thigh) are still unavailable.
Long-term absentees Jens Berthel Askou and Michael Spillane continued their race for match fitness with 90 minutes each in Wednesday's 1-0 Reserve victory over Luton Town.
Young striker Luke Daley who has been out since the beginning of December with a thigh injury has now made a return to training.
City face Southampton tomorrow for the third time this season, St Mary's hosting one league encounter and one Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie. Both of these games ended in 2-2 draws after the 90 minutes - the JPT Area Semi-Final finishing in a 6-5 penalty defeat for the Canaries, having conceded a controversial Saints' equaliser in the last seconds of normal time.
Lambert commented: "We played really well that night and played well in the league game as well, so it has the makings of a good game.
"It's another game we'll go and try and win against a really good side - but so are we and I'm sure Southampton will realise they're in for a hard game as well."
Tomorrow's game sees two of League One's top goalscorers on the same pitch - City's Grant Holt having scored 24 goals in all competitions so far this season and Southampton's Rickie Lambert on 25. And with both teams in good goal-scoring form having netted 114 times in League One between them, the City boss was asked if Carrow Road should expect an exciting afternoon:
"Sometimes when people put the hype on the lads to go and produce it, it doesn't really happen," he said. "On this given day we have to hope our lads are doing what they've been doing throughout the season.
"I believe there's more than 50 goals between the three of them (Holt, Martin and Hoolahan), which is incredible, no matter which way you want to look at it. It has been incredible the goalscoring feats that they've done and we'll try and win another game."
He added: "The way we play we don't play defensive football. Yes you've got to defend your goal and do all the right things, but we know we've got to try and win a game and the best way to win a game is to try and go on the front foot and get the crowd behind us, and that's what we'll try and do."
Five seasons ago this fixture would have graced the Premier League, but the two sides have shared decline since, relegated from both the Premiership and Championship in the same seasons.
"I think if you look at the last two games where they were terrific games of football and probably worthy of a higher division," said the City boss. "But the truth of the matter is we're not. That's the crux of the matter we're in League One and you have to earn the right to get out of it - and we'll do everything we can to get out of the league."
Alan Pardew in his pre-match comment has reportedly expressed his side's intent to come out and attack the Canaries from the off, something Lambert hopes his side can take advantage of: "You'd like to think there'd be more space and that's the type of thing you have to try and exploit. They know and we know we've got players that can hurt them - and it's the same for us, we know they've got really good players that can hurt us if we're not on our game."
