CHAPTER FOUR OF SQUADCAST

Posted on: Tue 23 Feb 2010

THE fourth chapter of Squadcast is launched today (2pm), with skipper Grant Holt, right-back Russell Martin and Norwich-born midfielder Matt Gill discussing the best manager they've worked under, the best players they've played alongside, up against and whether they've considered going into management.

As a taster to the fourth chapter, we'll reveal some of their answers:

Who's the best manager you've worked under - excluding Paul Lambert?
Russell Martin: I've played under a few different ones. Tony Adams who didn't really say a word until matchday. Darren Ferguson last year was really good, really intense, a perfectionist really, goes over everything all the time and training was good. John Gorman as well was just fantastic for me, a nice guy, a bit too nice at times.

Grant Holt: You learn different things from different managers. Rochdale when I was there with Steve Parkin, he was very much in your face, told you what he thought in the dressing room. He was good for me, he gave me the kick up the backside where I needed to not rest of my laurels, do different things. I owe a lot to him because he put me on that track not to rest and say I'm at Rochdale in League Two and that's it, without him I probably wouldn't have got a move.

Matt Gill: I've worked under a few. Barry Fry was shouting and screaming to Paul Tisdale last year who never raised his voice once in three years I played under him. You do take bits from every manager. Probably Tis (Tisdale) was the one for me, had most success under him anyway.

Have you thought about going into management in the future?
RM: I definitely want to stay on in football. Whether it is a coach or at youth team level, I want to be a manager if I can. I've done a few of my coaching badges already but I'm still young though. It's a long process, it takes time. Whether you have to start at the lowest level or you get a job at league level, I'd love to take it on and see how difficult it actually is.

GH: You'd like to do it, if you could. I've got a course on to do my coaching badges. It's getting the opportunities, I'm sure it's a lot more difficult than it looks really. Just to have that opportunity to do it and see what you can do.
