ELLIOTT COMPLETES MOVE TO CITY

Posted on: Sat 06 Mar 2010

CITY can confirm the loan signing of Preston North End striker Stephen Elliott following approval from the Football League and the FA this morning.

The striker passed his medical earlier in the day and is now in contention for Saturday's match against Yeovil Town (3pm) at Carrow Road.

Manager Paul Lambert said he would be a welcome addition to his squad as they push towards the promotion run-in for the final 12 games of the season.

Elliott came through the youth ranks at Manchester City and moved to Sunderland in 2004 after making only two substitute appearances under Kevin Keegan.

The 26-year-old immediately established himself as a first team regular at the Stadium of Light in the 2004-05 season and scored 16 goals as the Black Cats won the Championship title. The Dublin-born frontman also made his international debut for the Republic of Ireland that season against Croatia. He went on to score his first and only international goal to date in nine caps, against Cyprus in October 2005.

Premier League goals against Manchester United and Newcastle United followed but Sunderland were relegated from the Premier League in the 2005-06 season. His final season with the Black Cats ended the same as his first, winning the Championship title and after 23 goals in 88 appearances in all competitions on Wearside, Elliott teamed up again with manager Mick McCarthy at Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2007.

Wolves missed out on the Championship play-offs on goal difference in his only season at Molineux and the striker moved to Preston North End in the summer of 2008, where he has made 52 appearances for Preston, scoring 8 goals.

The striker is on loan at Carrow Road until the end of the season and has been allocated squad number 11.

The Canaries are still without Adam Drury (thigh), Cody McDonald (thigh) and Zak Whitbread (calf). However, Drury has made a welcome return to first team training this week.

Darel Russell will serve the final game of his three-match suspension against Yeovil tomorrow.

Ticket are still available for the Yeovil game at Carrow Road tomorrow (3pm) - log on to online ticketing, call 0844 826 1902, or visit the Carrow Road ticket office or the Canary Store in the Mall, Norwich.
