CITY DUO HOPING TO ROCK ROBINS

Posted on: Sat 17 Apr 2010

CITY team-mates Simon Lappin and Oli Johnson are looking to get back to winning ways at The Valley tomorrow as they face Phil Parkinson's fourth-placed Charlton Athletic (3pm).

With the disappointment of Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Leyton Orient fresh in his mind, Johnson says the Canaries have looked to learn from the midweek's events: "We had a little meeting yesterday morning, we all spoke out on our opinions on Tuesday's game and the rest of the season.

"How we can improve mentally and on the pitch as well and I think a lot of positive things were said, and we're prepared, ready to go on Saturday and looking to win."

The Orient game was the striker's first start since Walsall back in January and although pleased to be involved he believes the team needs to show improvement if they are to pick up the all-important points tomorrow.

"First and foremost I was delighted to get the start and for the manager to show that faith in me," said Johnson. "I've played in that position before. I feel, a little bit how the game was, they sort of suckered us into playing their sort of game. Obviously that's not our style. But I think as a team we know we can all perform better individually and as a team and we're looking to put that right on Saturday."

A win against Charlton would not only either clinch or push the Canaries closer to automatic promotion, depending on Swindon's result against Walsall, but would also help diminish the memories of City's last trip to The Valley - where on the final day of the 2008-09 season Norwich were relegated to League One after a 4-2 defeat to the Addicks.

One of the players involved in last year's encounter was midfielder Simon Lappin and although the Scot can understand the sentiment surrounding the game, he believes the most important thing is to get the Club over that white line and secure Championship status for next season.

"That game doesn't enter my head at all and I think any of the boys that played would be the same," he said. "That was last season, it's long gone, we're going for a different kind of thing and we're hopefully going to get promoted this season.

"But we'll have to be on top of our game going to Charlton, it's always a tough place and they've had a few good results recently as well, so we have to approach it in the right manner and see what happens."

With around 3,200 City fans travelling to South East London, as well as those watching on televisions live at Carrow Road, the midfielder says the Yellow Army's support has been vital all season and will continue to be so in this crucual four-game run-in: "They've been incredible the fans, even the other night, we looked to have more away fans than Leyton Orient had at home.

"They've been abolutely fantastic this season and the boys do appreciate it -  they get behind the team win, lose or draw and we'll need them again this Saturday. So I hope we can give them something to cheer about as well."

Tickets are still available for the beam-back at Carrow Road - call 0844 826 1902 from 9am on Saturday morning or visit the Carrow Road ticket office or the Canary Store in the Mall, Norwich.
