JUNIOR REPORTER COMPETITION WINNER

Posted on: Tue 27 Apr 2010

CITY are pleased to announce the winner of their 2009-10 Junior Reporter Competition.

Jacob Ilsley, aged 10 from Gresham Village School is the lucky winner whose entry stood out from the many we received.

We were impressed with its colourful and evocative language and the way it encapsulated the highs and lows of a typical blood and thunder Football League encounter - with a healthy amount of Canary bias!

Well done to all those youngsters who sent in an entry, it was a very tough choice.

Jacob and his family will be guests at the Gillingham match at Carrow Road today and at half-time he will receive his prize of a signed Norwich City shirt and a Football League goodybag.

As well as his report from the Canaries 2-1 win over Southend United back in February being published on canaries.co.uk below, his name will be listed on the Football League website and his entry put forward for national judging with a chance to win a VIP media day out at Wembley for the winner and up to three family members at a Coca-Cola Football League Play-Off Final.

Well done to Jacob and we hope he enjoys his day at Carrow Road.

JOHNSON DESTROYS ALL HOPE FOR SOUTHEND, by Jacob Ilsley

Oli gives light to darkness as he gets the two goals City needed

Last night at a packed out Carrow Road, the Canaries claimed victory again. Oli Johnson hit the back of the net twice, his second in injury time, knocking Southend off their perch and throwing their fans into a pit of despair; while the Norwich fans were cheering for joy.

When the match got started City had so many chances but the Southend goalkeeper kept on saving their shots. Also Southend had a few chances but Fraser Forster, the yellow army's keeper saved all their shots.

In the dying minutes of the first-half Southend scored just as the final whislte blew.

As the second-half began Paul Lambert made a double substitution to bring Korey Smith and Oli Johnson into the game.

Johnson equalised in the 68th minute and then claimed victory in injury time.

Southend reached for the stars but never got into orbit!
