CITY skipper Grant Holt is looking forward to rejoining his team-mates in action after missing out on last Saturday's promotion-clinching victory at Charlton.

Holt was serving the second of a two-match suspension while his Canary colleagues dug deep for the 1-0 win at The Valley which ensured Norwich will be plying their trade in the Championship next season.

City need just one point from their remaining three games to clinch the Coca-Cola League One title - and Holt says everyone in the Norwich City camp is eager to get the job finished.

He told First News: "Obviously it's never nice being out. I was disappointed with the way the yellow card came about, but obviously if the manager puts us back in tomorrow I can't wait.

"It's what we've been working hard to do all year, get promotion. It seems like it's been dragging on for weeks and weeks but we've got it now - and now we've got the added job of going on and winning the league."

When a journalist commented that it wasn't a case of Norwich 'turning up and having a party' against a Gills side fresh from a great 3-2 win at home over Leeds, Holt responded: "No, we wouldn't do that anyway, we haven't got that kind of player and we're not that kind of club. The manager expects you to give your all every game  and approach it in the correct manner. We're going out there and there are still points to play for and things we want to achieve and we'll be going into that game exactly the same as any other we've done this year."

Asked if Paul Lambert's touchline ban for the Gills game would make much difference to the players, Holt said: "I'm sure he'll still be able to have his say if things aren't going right, he can still come in the dressing room, he can still say his bits and bobs. We know what he expects, it doesn't matter if he's in the stands or on the touchline.

"This week he hasn't let us get carried away too much, he's talked to us about how he wants the league, he's said to us for the last three or four months that he wants the league and we're going to go out there and try and get it tomorrow."

Holt was asked about the challenge facing Norwich next season and said: "We won't be resting on our laurels. We know next year is a different ball game in the Championship and we will be working hard all pre-season getting ready for it. We don't want to go there just to have a mediocre season and be up down, up down - we want to go up there and be consistent and work as hard as we can.

"We know it's going to be tough, we know it's not going to be easy. But if the gaffer can add to the squad where he feels the need to strengthen, we'll do all right."
