CITY defender Michael Nelson has won April's Coca-Cola League One Player of the Month award.
The 30-year-old fought off competition for the accolade from Roy O'Donovan, currently on loan with Hartlepool from Sunderland, Rickie Lambert of Southampton and Carlisle's Ian Harte.
Nelson has both scored and kept a clean sheet in City's last two games against Charlton Athletic and Gillingham to help seal promotion for the Canaries and clinch the League One title.
Speaking on winning the award, Nelson said it was great to score the goals but paid tribute to his Canary team-mates: "To get the goal at Charlton was pretty special and when I managed to score against Gillingham, when we clinched the title, it was the icing on the cake really.
"All of the lads in the squad have dug in brilliantly to get the results we needed to get ourselves over the line. It's been a terrific effort by everyone."
City boss Paul Lambert commenting on the defender's contribution, said: "His form of late has been terrific, he gives you everything he's got and I thought on Saturday he was excellent. He's got a big heart that's for sure and a big desire to go and try and win games and he's a terrific lad - a very funny lad and he's been great for me."
