CITY striker Cody McDonald has joined League Two club Gillingham in a season-long standard loan deal.
McDonald joined the Canaries in February 2009 from non-league Dartford and soon progressed to the first team scene, marking his league debut with a goal in City's 2-0 Championship success over Cardiff City at Carrow Road the following month.
An instinctive striker with a direct style, once he receives the ball his only thought is to head to the opposition goal - and those predatory instincts made him a regular member of City's matchday squad during last season's League One title-winning campaign.
He has played a total of 32 (25 as substitute) games for City, scoring five goals including vital strikes against Walsall and Hartlepool last season.
The move to Gillingham will give him vital competitive match experience, with City also having Grant Holt, Chris Martin, Simeon Jackson and Oli Johnson in the striking department.
City boss Paul Lambert said: "Cody needs games. He's still not long out of non-league so his game is still developing. He's been great for the squad and always worked hard when he's come off the bench and scored one or two vital goals as well.
" This move will get him more competitive games under his belt which is important for him and us."
