DISS DRAW FOR YOUNG CANARIES

Posted on: Mon 02 Aug 2010

A YOUNG City XI side were held to a 0-0 draw by local Rigeons League Division One side Diss Town at Brewers Green Lane this evening.

With the Canaries facing another pre-season friendly against Lincoln City tomorrow night at Sincil Bank (7.30pm), Academy Manager Ricky Martin fielded a mixture of first and second year scholars and two young trialists against the Tangerines.

Martin commented: "Overall I'm very pleased with what was a young Canaries side, with several of the players just first year scholars and only 16 years of age.

"It was an opportunity for them to play senior football, which will stand them in good stead to play under-18s football and train with the senior squad in their day-to-day work. They showed good discipline throughout the game and finished the stronger of the two teams who looked more likely to get on the score sheet by the end of the game."

City XI: Matthews, Florence, Gordon, Clunan (Dobbs 60), Campbell (trialist), Jones (McKenzie 80), Duncan (trialist), Ball, Loza (Oakley 45), Brindley, Stephens (Kelly 60).

CITY goalkeeper Declan Rudd will be returning home after England Under-19s lost 3-1 to Spain in the semi-finals of the European Championships in Normandy France.

The 18-year-old has featured in all three of England's previous games in the tournament, but defeat this afternoon sees the Spanish side reach Friday's final.
