SUMMER signing Andrew Surman aims to aid City's strikers this season by hitting the back of the net on a regular basis, hopefully starting against Watford tonight (7.45pm).
The former Wolves midfielder admitted that he had high personal targets for the season and hopes to be able to provide a clinical edge in front of goal in a team with the ability to create chances at this level.
Speaking to the press ahead of tonight's league opener, Surman said: "I have set myself some targets for the season and maybe if I can chip in with a few goals and take a bit of pressure off the strikers along with the other midfielders.
"I'm setting my targets high, I feel like I have goals in me and I think playing in this team which creates so many chances, as long as I can be clinical enough infront of goal, then who knows maybe I can score enough goals. Hopefully I won't get to the end of the season with three or four."
Surman will look to start pushing towards his target against Watford this evening, a game that all the players are looking forward to, with the spotlight on Carrow Road for the Championship's opening league fixture.
"It is an added challenge that the lads are looking forward to. I think playing on telly obviously brings a different proposition with the whole nation watching, but I'm just glad that the season's starting after a long pre-season and we're glad that the game has been brought forward a day as the lads are raring to go."
And as Championship opponents go, Surman insisted that Watford pose a stern test to the Canaries tonight, but one they will need to overcome to get off to the best of starts.
"I think they'll be organised they've got some good players and as it's the start of the season everyone is starting on a level playing field. They will be difficult to beat and like I say they have a few players that can hurt you, so we're going to have to be on the top of our game.
"It is very important as winning breeds confidence. We want to hit the ground running and I think we've installed a winning mentality at this club and I think that stems from the manager and every game we go into we think we can win. That's not going to change and I think everyone is looking forward to Watford."
