LAMBERT PRAISES SQUAD ATTITUDE

Posted on: Fri 27 Aug 2010

PAUL Lambert today praised the Canaries' 'never say die' attitude ahead of City's second round Carling Cup tie against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

The Norwich boss had to wait until the final few minutes to see his side take the lead thanks to an Ashley Williams own goal against Swansea on Saturday, before Simeon Jackson secured the points with his first goal for Norwich in added time.

It followed Grant Holt's last-minute winner against Scunthorpe United a week before and Lambert said he is delighted with the character the side are showing in the Championship so far.

"We've got a great never say die attitude," Lambert told First News, "I think we know we can score goals at any time and the crowd played a huge part in our response against Swansea.

"It was a hard-earned three points, but I'm delighted with the way we battled and hung in there. If we keep going the way we are going then we'll be ok; we've got some talented footballers at the Club."

"John Ruddy's save was also vital to us, it galvanised everybody and we hung in and defended strongly when we had to. It was a massive three points."

Two consecutive victories means confidence is high amongst the City squad heading to Blackburn for the Carling Cup clash, and Lambert is looking forward to a stern Premiership test at Ewood Park.

"It is a good test. We have come a long way in a short space of time, from League One into the Championship and we have started well, but we are going up another level again against Blackburn.

"It's a great tie for us, it's a new environment against a Premiership team and nobody expects anything from us, but we've earned the right to play them and we'll try and get through."

The City boss will almost certainly be without Michael Nelson for their clash with Rovers however, having picked up an ankle knock in the side's victory over Swansea.

"Michael has a scan today and I don't expect him to be fit for tomorrow," said Lambert, "Hopefully the scan will come back and it wont be too bad, because I think him and Elliott Ward have been excellent in their last three games together."

Tickets are still available for the game against Premier League Blackburn from the Ticket Office at Carrow Road today or on the night at Ewood Park. Or call 0844 826 1902 now to purchase your seats.
