ZAK Whitbread joined City in January 2010 from Millwall, signing a two-and-a-half year deal.

The defender made his City debut as an 83rd minute substitute for Chris Martin in the 5-0 away win over Colchester United on January 16. He made his full debut against Stockport County at Carrow Road in April.

In a Canary career that had too often been stinted by injury, Whitbread returned to first team action in City's 2011 New Year's Day victory over QPR before going on to make a total of 23 appearances in all competitions to help guide City to the Barclays Premier League.

Inspired performances came in City's 2-2 draw with Leeds United and Whitbread also got his first goal for the Club in City's 1-1 draw with Hull at the KC Stadium in March 2011.

Whitbread came through the youth ranks at Liverpool making eight appearances in all competitions for the Reds before initially joining Millwall on loan in November 2005, having made his senior debut against the Lions in a Carling Cup tie in October 2004. The 25-year-old American suitably impressed at The Den making the move permanent in June 2006.

He became a first team regular and helped Millwall to reach last season's League One play-off final at Wembley, where they narrowly lost out to Scunthorpe United 3-2 on the day.

He made a total of 119 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals in his four years with Millwall.
