DANISH defender Jens Berthel Askou signed a two-year deal with City in July 2009, joining on a Bosman from Turkish top-flight side Kasimpasa.

Askou joined Norwich on trial during the pre-season tour of Scotland and the Dane impressed scoring the third goal in the 3-2 win over Airdrie United.

He returned to Norfolk to train with the Canaries and played in the 1-1 draw with a Manchester United XI side at Carrow Road, putting pen to paper just days later.

Askou made his City debut in the 4-0 away win over Yeovil Town in the first round of the Carling Cup, in August 2009. He scored his first City goal four days later in the 1-1 draw at Exeter City.

Having played 20 of the opening 21 League One fixtures, Askou was sidelined with a foot injury in the 3-3 draw against Yeovil Town in December and made only two appearances thereafter as Gary Doherty and Michael Nelson became the preferred central defensive pairing.

During his two seasons in Turkey, Askou made 57 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice. Before moving abroad, Jens played for Danish sides Silkeborg and Holstebro.
