McDONALD SCORES ON DEBUT
NORWICH City Reserves beat a resilient Great Yarmouth Town side 3-0 at Carrow Road.
Second half goals from Matty Pattison, David Carney and Cody McDonald, on his City debut, secured the win for Ian Crook's men.
Crook named a starting XI that included South African Matty Pattison and Australian David Carney in midfield and paired former Academy strikers Kris Renton and Luke Daley together in attack, the former just back from a knee injury and the latter fresh from his senior debut against Burnley at the weekend. Striker Cody McDonald, recently signed from non-league side Dartford was named among the substitutes having recovered from injury.
City created two decent opportunities in the opening exchanges of the match. Captain Korey Smith beat three men to work himself a yard of space in the Yarmouth box but drilled his shot in to the side netting.
A minute later City utilised the pace of Luke Daley down the left-channel, working the ball over to Tom Adeyemi but the midfielder rolled his effort inches wide of Michael Hilton's right-hand post.
Adeyemi had a strong penalty claim turned down in the 13th minute. Yarmouth captain Adrian Ager appeared to slide through the 17-year-old as he burst in to the box but referee Kelly was unmoved.
Hilton was pressed in to action saving from Kris Renton, David Carney and Korey Smith. Simon Lappin curled a free-kick just wide and Renton and Daley had further efforts which failed to trouble Hilton in the Bloaters' goal as City pressed on looking for the opener in the first half at Carrow Road.
The visitors came close midway through the half when Scott Woodcock flashed an effort past Stuart Nelson's left-hand post.
The Canaries had the ball in the net moments before half-time, David Carney reacting first to tap home the loose ball after Hilton had kept out Renton's shot on the turn from the edge of the area but the Australian midfielder had strayed in to an offside position and the goal was chalked off.

Manager Ian Crook shuffled his pack at half-time making three changes, introducing Cody McDonald for his first outing in City colours after signing from non-league side Dartford on transfer deadline day.
The deadlock was eventually broken on 58 minutes courtesy of Matty Pattison. The former Newcastle United midfielder picked up the ball 20-yards from goal and unleashed a powerful left-footed low drive that beat Hilton down to his left.
City made it two just after the hour mark when David Carney, on loan from Sheffield United, curled home a stunning left-footed free-kick from 25-yards, following a foul on Adeyemi.
Carney turned from scorer to provider with 20 minutes remaining slipping a ball through for debutant Cody McDonald to neatly finish making it 3-0 to the Canaries.
The Australian duo of Carney and Adrian Leijer combined to almost perfect effect five minutes later, Leijer meeting Carney's corner but the on-loan defender's header struck the outside of the woodwork.
Tyree Clarke looked to have made it four but the substitute's effort destined for the bottom corner nicked off a defender and just wide for a corner.
A minute from time left-back Robert Eagle cut inside on to his right-foot and curled a sumptuous effort from 25-yards narrowly wide with sub goalkeeper Elliot Pride beaten all ends up.
