CITY Reserves grabbed a solid 2-0 win away to a strong Stevenage Borough side featuring several players from their Blue Square Premier first team.
Cody McDonald grabbed his second goal in the space of 24 hours, slotting the ball under the Borough 'keeper on the quarter-hour mark to follow on from his late winner for Paul Lambert's senior squad at Walsall on Tuesday night.
In a competitive Totesport.com Combination clash Paul McVeigh doubled City's advantage five minutes before the break, finishing off an excellent City move with a neat finish.
The match provided welcome game time for Declan Rudd following his lengthy injury lay-off, with other first team squad members also benefitting from a good night's work including Zak Whitbread, Anthony McNamee, Matt Gill and Tom Adeyemi.
Coach Ian Crook said: "Stevenage certainly gave us a good, competitive game, I think their side featured about eight players from their first team. Both our goals were good finishes and it was good for Declan to get a clean sheet on his return.
"It was also a welcome chance to play some competitive football for some of the guys who have found it hard to get first team games due to the great run the lads are on at the moment."
City Reserves: Rudd, Francomb, Wiggins, Stephens, Whitbread, Adeyemi, Gill, McVeigh, McNamee (Dawkin 55), McDonald (Clarke 45), Kelly. Subs not used: Steer (GK), Gordon, Ball.
Meanwhile City can confirm the Reserves will entertain Northampton Town on Wednesday, April 21 and Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday, April 28. Both games will be at Carrow Road with a 2pm kick-off.
Games at the new 2pm kick-off time will see only the City Stand open to the public. Prices will remain the same, with season ticket holders and children under-16 admitted free of charge, adults paying £4 and over-60s £1.
City's outstanding away Reserve match at Luton Town has also now been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 24 (7pm) to be played at Barton Rovers.
