WYCOMBE GIVE CITY THE BLUES

Posted on: Thu 04 Feb 2010

CITY Reserves lost 3-1 to Wycombe Wanderers at York Road as the hosts maintained their unbeaten record.

Luke Oliver put the Blues ahead early on before substitute Kadeem Harris made it 2-0 on the hour mark.

A mintue later Danny Kelly (pictured) pulled a goal back for City with a close-range finish, but sub Matt McClure sealed the win for Wycombe with a header.

The Blues took the lead inside two minutes when Oliver rose to head home a Matty Phillips free-kick from six yards out.

Former City Academy goalkeeper Steve Arnold had to be at his best to deny the returning Jens Berthel Askou as City began to dominate proceedings. The Danish defender, playing his first match since breaking a metatarsal against Yeovil Town in mid-December met Anthony McNamee's corner with a powerful header but Arnold denied him with a fine save.

On the hour mark, Wycombe doubled their advantage when Phillips got free down the right-hand side and picked out Harris with his far post cross, who beat Declan Rudd from close range.

Within a minute the two-goal advantage was reduced when Kelly tapped home from a left-wing cross inside the six-yard box.

City pushed for an equaliser but sub McClure put an end to Ian Crook's sides hopes on 78 minutes when he headed home a Phillips cross.

CITY: Rudd, Francomb, Gordon, Askou (Spillane 46), D.Stephens, Adeyemi, McVeigh (Clarke 75), Gill, Kelly, Dawkin, McNamee. Subs not used: Steer (GK), Lathrope, Oakley.

The Reserves next fixture is at Carrow Road against Ipswich Town on Wednesday, February 10 (2pm). Only the City Stand will be open to the public. Admittance is free to season ticket holders and children under-16, while tickets cost £4 for adults and £1 for over-60s on the turnstiles.
