SCG MINUTES
Norwich City Football Club
Supporters Consultative Group
Minutes of meeting on March 9, 2009
1. APOLOGIES
Apologies were received from Richard Martin, Trevor Cockburn, David Thornton, Peter Anderson and John Tilson.
2. MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 24, 2008
The minutes were agreed.
3. FUTURE OF SCG
J. Ferrari explained his recent absence from work on compassionate grounds, had meant he had been unable to produce a further proposal document reflecting the issues put forward at the last meeting.
It was agreed that J. Ferrari would conduct a round of telephone calls to SCG members to gauge their feelings and opinions on the group's future. This would then be taken to produce a paper to be discussed at an interim meeting to be scheduled in April.
R. Emery felt that a review should take place on the SCG Working Groups. There was a general consensus that although some working groups had clear objectives and met regularly with purpose, others didn't and a review of their future was necessary. J. Ferrari to add questions on these groups to his general ring-round to members and also speak to WG Chairs to get their thoughts.
Key issues raised were the amount of time Club staff could or couldn't commit to each group, regularity of meetings and whether there was an opportunity to refresh membership.
J. Whitwood and R. Gough confirmed that the Long Distance and Disabled working groups were continuing to meet with clear objectives.
4. AVIVA SPONSORSHIP
Chris Elliott, Aviva Sponsorship Manager was introduced to the meeting. Chris explained that he wanted to open up communication between the sponsors and this group and gave a brief introduction regarding the reasoning behind the sponsorship and the initiatives undertaken within it so far.
These included the distribution of scarves at the first home game of the season and the distribution of bacon rolls and refreshment vouchers ahead of the FA Cup ties against Charlton. Aviva also supported the 59ers Anniversary Reunion and organised a recent fans forum at Carrow Road. Community based initiatives, such as Canaries for the Community and those with FITC (Ability Counts) and the Study Centre (Footy Finance) are also supported. But the most high profile activity so far was probably the Community Chest competition, which saw Aviva give up their sponsorship of the Club to local charity - The Benjamin Foundation.
Chris asked for any feedback or suggestions of what they could do in the future.
Positive feedback was received on the 59ers reunion, which saw a forum reception held in the Marble Hall. S. Matthews highlighted the long-lasting relationship that her employers The Benjamin Foundation would hopefully enjoy past the initial support and profile the competition had given the charity.
The sponsorship has given Aviva the opportunity to engage its staff by offering ticket prizes and getting employees involved in initiatives and activities such as Canaries for the Community and the Lord Mayor's Procession.
5. ANY OTHER BUSINESS
J. Whitwood confirmed that the weekend of March 13 was the Canaries Worldwide Weekend (long distance supporter weekend). A quiz night was planned for the Friday and then the day of the Plymouth match would see a pitch parade and then a social event in the evening with food, drink and live music. A 6-a-side tournament would take place on the Sunday at Colney with teams managed by former players.
6. FOOTBALL MATTERS
The performance of the Club and Board during season 2008/09 and previous seasons was discussed. The future of the Football Club, and how that might differ depending on divisional status was also debated.
7. NEXT MEETING
The next SCG meeting to take place on April 14, 2009.
