PLAYERS HELP PROMOTE ANTI-RACISM

Posted on: Wed 10 Feb 2010

NORWICH City's Study Centre has hosted a Show Racism the Red Card anti-racist educational event for local school pupils at Carrow Road.

City players Jens Berthel Askou and Tom Adeyemi and former professional footballer and manager, Leroy Rosenior answered questions on racism posed by primary school pupils at the event, organised by SRtRC in conjunction with Norwich City.

The young people took part in an anti-racist educational workshop and watched the SRtRC DVD and participated in a question and answer session.

The Show Racism the Red Card film features some of the game's greatest players, Thierry Henry, Samuel Eto'o, Lilian Thuram, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand and Didier Drogba. They all talk about their experiences of racism and offer advice on how to deal with, and combat, racism whenever it occurs.

The SRtRC campaign holds around 40 education events with football clubs each season, using the high profile of professional footballers to talk to young people about racism, both in sport and society.

Ged Grebby, Show Racism the Red Card's Chief Executive, said: "It's great to continue this season's programme of educational events with Norwich City. I know the young people, who are attending from primary schools throughout Norfolk will be really looking forward to the day."

"SRtRC have been working in partnership with Norwich City's Study Support Centre to organise the event. We are confident that the anti-racist message presented on the day will further illustrate the Club's commitment to tackling racism through education and will help show young people from the area that there is no room for racism in Norwich; in football or in society."
