NORFOLK County Council is joining the We're backing City campaign as part of their new two-year sponsorship agreement, working with the Club to encourage more youngsters to become fit and active.
The recent home match against Charlton saw the local authority become an official partner of the Football Club, sponsoring City's youth Academy and Girls' Centre of Excellence and working more closely with neighbourhood initiatives run by Football in the Community.
Norfolk County Council leader Daniel Cox commented: "I am proud Norfolk County Council is officially joining forces with Norwich City Football Club to harness the power of the 'beautiful game' - encouraging and inspiring people in our county to achieve more through sport.
"The success of the Football Club is tremendously important to our county - bringing untold economic benefits to the area and encouraging us all to aspire and achieve. Norfolk County Council is delighted to be officially associated with the Club and this campaign."
Norwich City Chief Executive David McNally added: "We are excited to be partnering Norfolk County Council and thank them for joining the We're backing City campaign at such an important time for the Football Club. We absolutely share Norfolk County Council's ambition to encourage young people across the county to participate more in sport and strongly believe that together we form a strong team which can deliver positive results for all."
During the two years of working together all parties will be working together to:
· Work to promote further improvements in countywide reading and maths skills, reduce road deaths and stamp out bullying.
· Give children from a range of different backgrounds, including young carers, a chance to attend matches on a regular basis.
· Celebrate the achievement of special young people as a Norfolk County Council mascot at each home game.
· Extend and promote a 'mini world cup' between local people and some of our new communities to improve understanding and tolerance.
· Help in the search for the footballing stars of the future - both boys and girls across the county.
