59ERS THEME AT BARNSLEY MATCH

Posted on: Sat 17 Jan 2009

THIS Saturday at City's home match with Barnsley (3pm), Norwich City will officially commemorate the Club's famous 1958-59 FA Cup run with the 59ers 50th Anniversary Reunion, sponsored by Aviva.

Carrow Road will have a 1950s feel to it with the Taverham Band playing Glenn Miller classics outside of the Jarrold Stand and the usual pre-match song-list will include 1950s classics. The Carrow Road scoreboards and matchday programme 'On the Ball' will also adopt a 1950s style.

Before kick-off, fans will be asked to raise cards attached to their seats to take part in a stadium mosaic. Along with this, December's Anglian Player of the Month will be presented pre-match and the Canary Store is giving season ticket holders and members double discount on purchases made within the shop.

Having earlier been guests of main Club sponsor Aviva at their Marble Hall for an exclusive forum, members of the original 59ers squad and their families will arrive at Carrow Road to watch the game and there will be an opportunity for supporters to show their appreciation to these Norwich City legends as they take part in a half-time pitch parade.

Saturday's activities are the culmination of events to celebrate this famous part of Norwich City Football Club history. Commemorations started on January 3 when a special limited edition shirt was worn by the Norwich first team for their original FA Cup third round tie with Charlton Athletic and then again in the replay at Carrow Road on Tuesday evening. These match-worn shirts are now part of an auction, with part of the proceeds going to the Norwich City Historical Trust.

Members of the 1958-59 team will also be attending a dinner at Carrow Road in their honour on Friday, with a three-course meal, interviews and film clips from the era and the cup run itself. Terry Allcock, Terry Bly, Roy McCrohan, Jimmy Hill, Sandy Kennon, Bobby Wilson, John Wilson and Derrick Lythgoe are attending as well as family members representing the late Bryan Thurlow, Ken Nethercott and Barry Butler.

To be part of the events at Carrow Road this Saturday get your ticket by calling 0844 826 1902 or visit the ticket office at Carrow Road or Canary Store, The Mall.  Seats are priced for as little as £1 for under-16s.
